أُبيَّةٍa proud spirit دونهاbeneath it الأرماحُthe spears والقُضُبُand swords
O Abu Shuja, Kamal al-Din, hear the appeal of one
O Abu Shujaa Kamaal al-Deen, I call upon you,
whose proud spirit stands above spears and swords.
Below whom spears and clubs bow down,
إنيindeed I مدحتكَpraised you والآمالُand hopes يُنغِضُهاstirs them
إلىtoward مكارمكyour generous deeds المشهورةrenowned الطَّربُrapture
Indeed, I have praised you, while my hopes are stirred
I have praised you while hopes diminish,
toward your renowned generosity by rapture.
To your well-known noble deeds yearns the soul,
وماand not أجدتُfashioned well بقوليin my words فيكَabout you قافيةًa rhyme
حتىuntil تحققتُI knew with certainty ديناًas an obligation أنهاthat it تَجِبُis due
I fashioned no fine rhyme in speaking of you
And I could not find a rhyme for you in my words
until I was certain it was a duty owed.
Until I was certain it would come to be,
فاعلمso know حقوقيmy dues فرضاًan obligatory duty غيرَnot نافلةٍa voluntary offering
واغنمand gain ثناءَpraise هوit is العَلْياءُlofty glory والرُّتَبُand ranks
So know that my dues are obligatory, not a voluntary offering,
So know that my rights upon you are obligatory, not voluntary,
and gain praise that is glory and high rank.
And take my praise which is supreme and lofty,
فإنَّfor indeed مَطْلَdelay in payment أمينِAmin (trustee of) الدينal-Din (the faith) أغضبنيangered me
ومنand from تميمٍTamim يفرُّflees الموتdeath إنْif غضبواthey grow angry
For Amin al-Din's delay in payment has angered me,
For the delay of Ameen al-Deen angered me,
and death flees from Tamim if they grow angry.
And from Banu Tameem one flees if they become angry,
عدلتyou acted justly حتىuntil التقىmet الضِّدانthe two opposites بينهماbetween them
وُدُّaffection التجانسkinship لاnot ذُعرٌterror ولاand not هربُflight
You dealt so justly that the two opposites met, sharing
I was just until the two opposites met,
the affection of kinship, not terror or flight.
Affection for harmony, neither panic nor fleeing,
أعْياbaffled طوالlong القناthe spears أحوالُconditions of مفسدةٍcorruption

Corrupt affairs baffled the long spears,
The affairs of corruption wearied along the peninsula,
so through you pens and writings dispelled them.
So I dispersed them through you, by the pens and books,

O devout, scrupulous worshipper, even outside Rajab,
O you ascetic and devout without pretense,
may your lifetime gladden you, since all of it is Rajab.
For there is your time when collected is Rajab,

And may your command remain obeyed as long as
And you did not cease to have your command obeyed when the sun rose,
the sun rises and clouds make the lifeless meadows sprout.
And the meadows of Al-Hamd gave rainclouds to drink.
