May you and Shams al-Din remain, for glory and exalted rank,
May you and Shams al-Din endure for glory and high honor,
both mighty, so long as a songbird alights in the arak tree.
both mighty, as long as a warbling bird alights on the arak tree.
فماfor … not ماتdied منْhe who أبقاكماleft you both surviving ونماكُماand reared you both
تغمَّدهُmay it enfold him عفوٌpardon منfrom اللهِGod واسعُboundless
For he who kept you both alive and nurtured you has not died.
For he who left you both behind and reared you both has not died;
May a vast pardon from God enfold him—
may boundless pardon from God enfold him.

Copiously raining clouds—your two rain-bringers, your two abiding supports—are his bounty,
A cloud that poured down rain, its bounty enduring—
which has never ceased since the cleaving blades carried him away from us.
so it did not vanish even when the cloud-dispersing winds swept it away from us.

Najm al-Din’s stand in every glorious exploit
And Najm al-Din's stand in every glorious deed
is renowned; battles and assemblies alike praise him for it.
is renowned; battle and assemblies praise him for it.
فانْso if يصطبرْhe endures patiently فالصبرthen patience منهin him سجيَّةٌan innate trait
اذاwhen انحطمتshatter فيagainst الدارعينthe armored men الشوارعthe leveled spears
And if he patiently endures, patience is his innate disposition,
So if he endures patiently, patience is his nature,
when thrusting lances splinter among the mail-clad warriors.
when leveled spears shatter against men in armor.
