It gladdens my eye that he should live in bliss,

throughout all time, protecting his neighbor and giving freely.

For I have seen no companion more deserving of life than he,

whose good nature we trust and toward whom we incline.

He enfolded his foes in forbearance; none had come

to intercede, nor had any envoy sought protection.

And he drew them close, until even the spiteful foe was sincere,

filled with remorse and turning away from his offense.

And he devoted himself wholly to the All-Merciful in every circumstance,

so passion never found a path to him.

Cheerful of countenance, of Nizar, as though

his resolves amid calamities were blades.

Composed, yet in hospitality and in lending his aid,

swift and prompt toward whoever seeks them both.

    نَهوضٌ بعبءِ المجدِ وهو ثقيلُ

    Weak before the slightest dishonor, he cannot bear it;

yet he rises to shoulder glory’s burden, heavy though it is.
