Indeed, Prince Shihab al-Din’s radiant brow

guides the guides, while the star of night is hidden.

He is of a people who, if pleased, all mankind

is pleased; and if angered, the cord unravels.

Once we were brought together by one I used to know

for fine faithfulness in which the days take pride.

    فهل يَصُحُّ لنا ذنبٌ فيُغْتفرُ

    And I know of no prior cause for severing goodwill;

so can any fault be established against us, and thus forgiven?

So if the firm bonds of affection came first,

then Umar is the keeper of the secret between us.

After this, what was said in a proverb has indeed proved true:

And you do wrong, so we come to you and apologize.
