إلىto اللّهGod رَبِّLord العرشِof the Throne فهيthen it is بَلاءُan affliction
If a person's blessing is not a means of drawing near
If man's blessing brings him not near
To God, Lord of the Throne, then it is an affliction.
To God, Lord of the mighty Throne, 'tis but bale;
وكلُّand all غِنىًwealth لمnot يُستفدْbe gained بوجودهِthrough its presence

And all wealth whose presence does not bring
And wealth that wins not the favour sincere
God's pleasure and high honor is hardship.
Of God, and true glory, is only travail;

بأعْراضِfor transient goods لَهْوٍof pleasure ماnot لَهُنَّfor them بَقاءُpermanence
And among what grieves the soul of wisdom is selling what is everlasting
And the woe that wounded the pilgrim soul
For trifles of pleasure that do not last.
Was the sale of Khalid for vanities frail

And whoever views the world with a truthful eye
That endure not; and whoso the world doth control
Finds despair and hope alike.
With the eye of the Truth, despair and hope are the same to him ever.
