أولو الفضل في يوم النَّدى والوقائعِ

I swore by the lofty glory Tamim has built—

I swore by the lofty pinnacles Tamim erected

men of excellence on the day of bounty and battles—

The virtuous on the day of tryst and events

يمينَ صَدوقِ القول من غير حلفةٍ

يمينَ صَدوقِ القول من غير حلفةٍ

كريمِ المساعي والثَّنا والمطامع

كريمِ المساعي والثَّنا والمطامع

the oath of one truthful in speech even without an oath,

The oath of the truthful in word without any oath

noble in his endeavors, his renown, and his aspirations:

Noble in effort, praise, and hopes

لئن لم تلُذْ بالود من بعد نَبْذهِ

لئن لم تلُذْ بالود من بعد نَبْذهِ

ملاذَ الأراوى بالجبالِ الفوارع

ملاذَ الأراوى بالجبالِ الفوارع

if you do not seek refuge in friendship after casting it aside,

If you do not take pleasure in love after rejecting it

as mountain goats seek refuge in towering mountains,

The shelter of the weak in the towering mountains

ليعتلجنْ بي البيوتِ مع الضُّحى

ليعتلجنْ بي البيوتِ مع الضُّحى

مقالٌ كأطرافِ الرماح الشَّوارع

مقالٌ كأطرافِ الرماح الشَّوارع

with the morning light, there shall surely seethe within me—[“the houses” is unclear here]—

My words at dawn will stir the house

a saying like the points of leveled spears.

Like the tips of spears, sharp and piercing
