    مساعي عُلاه لا أكفُّ الصَّياقلِ

    I seek protection for the keen, cleaving sword, whose edges were honed

    by his lofty endeavors, not by the hands of sword-polishers;

    and for a brimming dark cloud that ever, with a gleam

    of cheer, dispels every drought and whatever has befallen,

    through the gracious care of the Lord of the Throne, from every setback

    whose harm hinders every keen blade and rain-pouring cloud.

    And the sword and the rain-heavy cloud are nothing but a metaphor

    for the dignitary Taj al-Din, lord of bounties:

    the clan's noble youth—as for his might, it is for support

    and aid; as for his wealth, it is for bestowing bounty.
