I say to riders, slender as arrow-shafts, who have drunk together
I say to a troop like torches, pass around
The cups of night travel, while night lets down its trailing hems,
The cups of joy, and the night has let down its tresses

Light upon the saddles of narrow-eyed camels that seem
Lightly, on the humps of tall palm trees, as though they were
Like crescents in the sky or bows for broad-headed arrows.
Tents of air, or solid battlements

The mounts of resolve almost stride toward the heights
The steeds of resolve almost step up to the heights
Bearing them, ahead of the rush of swift, trotting camels.
With them, before the gale of the pacing she-camels

Whenever they breathe a waft from the breeze of glory,
When they rend an aroma of glory from the blowing wind
They turn the breasts of their riding-camels toward it:
They incline towards it, from the chests of the mounts

And sternness for enemies, generosity for a petitioner.

When he takes out his spear and sword
And his bounty puts rain and milk-laden camels to shame.
And disgraces his opponent with wounds and crowds

A nimble, adorned, twisting serpent
Hardened and polished by burnishers’ hands,
Commanded and sharpened by the best whetstones

To aid a penniless man and battle an adversary
He goes to provide reinforcements and wage battles
