I keep my praises from the prince's ears,

for fear of being thought to seek a gift.

But for that fear, I would never cease sending forth

fleet steeds of speech, finely built and sleek,

rivaling meteor-bolts in beauty and speed,

and surpassing broad-winged eagles' flight when they fly at full speed.

And how can I refrain from praising one so highly praised,

when he has filled the world and its days with glory?

I offered him my love and praise, and both bowed

to the purer of the two in love and the more faithful in covenant.

War's champions flee from the heat of his might,

and with speech he defeats eloquent, obstinate disputants.

The victorious champion of God's faith, the noble one who,

when asked, does not withhold, and even unasked gives freely.

Mightier than a man of ʿĀd in endurance and strength,

and more generous than the swelling sea's surge and depths.

And Yazdan is but a raincloud for the drought-stricken,

that poured down and made every stony tract soft and moist.
