    فبعيدُ كل فضيلةٍ كَثَبُ

    Glory's distant heights have granted you access;

so the distant reach of every virtue is close at hand.

And you have excelled in valor and in generosity,

so white blades and clouds are your two enviers.

And now the witnesses to the qualities in which you excel are

the sword, the pens, and the books.

And you were endowed with the finest of all noble distinctions—

distinctions that eluded others—by endeavor and lineage.

Thus you are the Splendor of God's Faith; to this

your deeds bore witness, and the title was recorded.

The rhymes, since you were praised in them, are filled with pride

by the twin impulses of pride and rapture,

exulting at the mention of a mighty, discerning chief,

whose glory's perfection admits no doubt.

So may an age be gladdened—you are its peerless one

in excellence, and Rajab is among its months—

by your fortune's advance, forever ascending,

beyond the reach of calamity and misfortune.

And may you endure as long as doves coo, and as long as

darkness falls and the ages revolve.
