برامِكَةٌ يمتارُهمْ كلُّ مُعْسِرِ

برامِكَةٌ يمتارُهمْ كلُّ مُعْسِرِ

Each age has, among the finest of its people,

Each era has peers of its people,

Barmakids from whom every needy person obtains provisions.

Bramikas who excel them, each facile,

أبو الفضل يحيى مثل يحيى بن خالدٍ

أبو الفضل يحيى مثل يحيى بن خالدٍ

يَداً وأبوهُ جعفرٌ مثلُ جعفرِ

يَداً وأبوهُ جعفرٌ مثلُ جعفرِ

Abu al-Fadl Yahya is like Yahya son of Khalid

Abu Al-Fadl Yahya is a peer of Yahya ibn Khalid,

In generosity, and his father Ja‘far is like Ja‘far.

A hand, and his father Ja'far is a peer of Ja'far.
