هل للزمان وقد جلَّتْ جرائمُهُ

هل للزمان وقد جلَّتْ جرائمُهُ

وأضعف الخطب من تلقائه الجلدا

وأضعف الخطب من تلقائه الجلدا

Can time, now that its crimes have grown grievous,

Has time, though its crimes have accumulated,

and the calamity it brings has weakened fortitude,

And the most eloquent tongues have been rendered powerless by it,

أن يجمعَ الشملَ ما بيني وبينكم

أن يجمعَ الشملَ ما بيني وبينكم

حتى أعُدُّ له تلك الذنوبَ يَدا

حتى أعُدُّ له تلك الذنوبَ يَدا

reunite me with you,

The power to reunite us after our long separation,

so that I count those sins of its as a favor?

So I can make amends for those sins?

فإنَّ رؤيا أبي نصْرٍ على كبدي

فإنَّ رؤيا أبي نصْرٍ على كبدي

كالماء ينقعُ مني بالورود صَدى

كالماء ينقعُ مني بالورود صَدى

For the vision of Abu Nasr is to my liver

For the vision of my father Nasr weighs heavily upon me

like water that quenches my thirst when I drink.

Like water dripping slowly from me along with the flowers.

أغَرُّ تفضل حدَّ السيف عزمتُه

أغَرُّ تفضل حدَّ السيف عزمتُه

بأساً ويفْضُل هطَّال السحاب جدا

بأساً ويفْضُل هطَّال السحاب جدا

He is radiant; his resolve surpasses the sword's edge

I was tempted by the favor of the sword to the point of death,

in might, and he outdoes the rain-pouring clouds in bounty.

Violently, and the pouring rain overflowed excessively.
