يزيدُ في عِزِّ الفتى ذُلُّهُ

يزيدُ في عِزِّ الفتى ذُلُّهُ

حيناً واِنْ كانَ لهُ آبيا

حيناً واِنْ كانَ لهُ آبيا

A young man's abasement adds to his honor

A young man's dignity increases his humiliation

at times, even if he is averse to it,

At times, even if he has a determined father

كسابقٍ قَصَّرَ عنْ غايةٍ

كسابقٍ قَصَّرَ عنْ غايةٍ

فكانَ بالسَّوْطِ لَها حاويا

فكانَ بالسَّوْطِ لَها حاويا

like a racer who fell short of the goal,

Like a racer who falls short of the goal

then attained it through the whip.

So the whip makes him reach it
