A Hashimite fragrance points to him;
A Hashimite fragrance points to him,
Fragrant are its lingering traces, sweet-scented its breeze.
Its gentle breeze gracefully blowing.

And a spreading tree of Mudar speaks plainly of him;

وهوبٌ اذا الشَّهباء أكدتْ غيومها
A mighty striker while gleaming, keen-edged swords are blunt;
Forms vary, and so do bright-faced moons,
And a lavish giver when the ash-gray year's clouds yield no rain.
And passions when gray clouds thicken.

When calamities oppress, he is their man of bounty;
When thoughts wander, he gently reins them,
And if minds grow reckless, he is their man of forbearance.
When dreams fly away, he is wise and forbearing.

His praises are sung to the weary among the swift she-camels,
Those who praise him sing of his glory,
So their swift trot outstrips the rush of gales.
Swift as the wind their tunes carry.

He deems withholding a favor the ugliest of things,
To him the absence of grace is disgraceful,
And uglier still, a favor he does not sustain.
And grace that does not last, disgraceful.
