As the night-traveling company resolved to depart.

Truly, and the hour has come for me to desist from error.

A crumbling bank of patchwork religion,

From him a way whose lights shine clear.

The best of creation after Ahmad's two grandsons,

    The elect of the family of the Chosen One, the Elect;

And beloved of the best of messengers, and the one who became

A lion of al-Shara, where keen swords and spears

Go about with Death's cup passed round.

The Qur'an's chanting before him moves him to sorrow, not

The beating of tambourines or the ringing of strings.

O Abu al-Husayn, this is the prayer of a servant sincere

In his love for you, openly and in secret.

Suffer killing and captivity at your hands?

Who had come to warn you of the torment of fire.

And after the burning you pounded his ashes,

And scattered them in the flowing Euphrates.

My grief for him! How much I forever conceal

Of anguish in my breaths and the heat of a blaze!

May the Lord of Majesty bless him and grant him peace,

After Muhammad and his immaculate kin.
