أجاهدI struggle against النْفسthe soul إنif تمادَتْit persists in wrongdoing
أجاهد النْفس إن تمادَتْ
ولمand has not تَزَلْceased قطّever فيin التّماديpersistence in wrongdoing
ولم تَزَلْ قطّ في التّمادي
I struggle against the soul if it persists in wrongdoing,
And it has never ceased persisting in wrongdoing.
ياO ربّLord فاكْتُبْthen record ثَوابَthe reward of عَبْدٍa servant
يا ربّ فاكْتُبْ ثَوابَ عَبْدٍ
ماnot زَالَceased مُذْsince كانَhe came to be فيin جِهادِstruggle
ما زَالَ مُذْ كانَ في جِهادِ
O Lord, then record the reward of a servant
Who has never ceased striving since he came to be.
