Away from me; forgetting is not my way.

What has streamed from my tear duct down my cheeks is enough for you.

O my reproacher, how can I forget my love for a young gazelle,

through whom I have forgotten my patience and my solace?

Do not concern yourself with me; my heart is too preoccupied for you,

with the grief and sorrows I endure.

Go away from my passion, carefree and at ease,

and leave what lies between my entrails and my fires alone.

You offered counsel, but I have no need of counsel.

How well you and I could have done without this!

    واراقدَ الجفنِ قد أسهرتَ أجفاني

    O cold-hearted one, my heart is aflame because of you;

and O you of sleeping eyelids, you have kept my eyelids awake.

And O beloved, whose bond of companionship we have kept

in love—where are my pledges and my oaths?

Was it when you went away—while the days still kept

revealing the lurking pair, rancor and hatred—

that you forgot my pure affection for you? How strange!

And you remain the fetter of my thoughts—how can you forget me?

Has distance changed the heart I know in you,

or have you heard the words of the envious hater?

I am the one your coldness has not changed; nor

has the hand of forgetfulness sought to drive out my passion.
