لو وهبوه لسائل لأبي

لو وهبوه لسائل لأبي

وقال أخذي له من الغين

وقال أخذي له من الغين

If they gave it to a beggar, he would refuse,

If they had granted it to a beggar

and say, “My accepting it would stem from clouded judgment.”

And said, take from it some wealth

غنيت إذ طارت الرياح به

غنيت إذ طارت الرياح به

يا ريح ما تصنعين بالدمن

يا ريح ما تصنعين بالدمن

I sang when the winds carried it away:

I would be wealthy when the winds carried it away

“O wind, what are you doing with the dung heaps?”

O wind what will you do with this pile of trash
