The fiercest chaste love is the sweetest to me.

Love's burning and its battering are easy for me.

I stood gazing, as tears dissolved my eye,

Watching my heart as passion severed it.

And one of spear-like stature, his figure made straight,

Has an eye like a sword, honed to perfection.

He fights in love's war with his rebuffs,

And the swiftest thing about promises is his casting them aside.

I have been peerless in loving since he became peerless in love—

In beauty; each of us is the age's unique, matchless one.

A rain-laden cloud, soft of flank, watered his dwelling,

At times pouring rain upon it, at others sprinkling it.
