فَكَمْ جَمَعَ الحُسْنُ النَّفِيسُ مِنَ العُلَى

فَكَمْ جَمَعَ الحُسْنُ النَّفِيسُ مِنَ العُلَى

وَكَمْ فَرَّقَ الجَيْشُ الخَمِيسُ مِنَ العِدَى

وَكَمْ فَرَّقَ الجَيْشُ الخَمِيسُ مِنَ العِدَى

So how much glory precious beauty has gathered!

How much the noble beauty gathered glory,

And how many foes the fivefold army has scattered!

And how the army, now scattered, drove off hostile bands!

وَكَمْ قَدْ نَضَا سَيْفاً بِكَفٍّ كَرِيمَةٍ

وَكَمْ قَدْ نَضَا سَيْفاً بِكَفٍّ كَرِيمَةٍ

فَأَحْسَنَ وَضْعَ السَّيْفِ في مَوْضِع النَّدَى

فَأَحْسَنَ وَضْعَ السَّيْفِ في مَوْضِع النَّدَى

And how often he has drawn a sword with a generous hand,

How often did a generous hand draw forth the blade,

then aptly placed the sword in the place of generosity.

And skilfully return it to its sheath, like dew!
