Perhaps the camp's arak trees were shown to you at night

by a flash of radiance shining through from the direction of Taybah.

Otherwise, why are the wind's trailing skirts moist

with perfume, and why do the riding camels dance?

For the Chosen One's light has not ceased to shine for us

upon them, and the sanctuary's landmarks rise into view.

And whenever a landmark appears, there arises

for us, because of it, a source of rapture and dancing.

And they said, 'Tomorrow we shall reach Muhammad's dwellings.'

So I said to them, 'This is what I seek.'

Make the camels kneel—why ride, when they

walk upon the head or journey upon the eye?

Is not he, without whom no sinner would escape

or be delivered from the fire of Hell,

a prophet whose signs of truth have become manifest?

So every envious soul is vexed in their presence.

He aided the gazelle in his mercy when she complained,

and in that she found succor and deliverance.

A prophet supported by the angels of heaven,

and specially endowed with manifest miracles.

And surely the speech of the Spirit, the lizard, the staff,

and the gazelle of the wilderness is the clearest, purest proof.

And in the tree of swaying boughs, when it grew verdant,

its shade ample for him, never shrinking away.

Forbearing, generous to petitioners, as though he

were the embodiment of forbearance and abundant generosity.

So, O Seal of the noble messengers, and you through whom

we gain deliverance from the terrors of sin—

aid us; grant us refuge from sins grown grievous,

for you are an intercessor and deliverer for all creation.

And I have no standing, nor any means of approach,

save that my heart is sincere in love.

If closeness to you is assured, O best of messengers,

what should I strive for after that?

    فَعَنْ أَيِّ شيءٍ غَيْر جَاهِكَ يَفْحَصُ

    And whoever has had me as his refuge fears no oppression;

so what would he seek besides your standing?

Upon you be a blessing whose fragrance embraces your family,

and all the companions have a special share of it.
