تَكُنْ لِوَرْدَةِ خَدَّيهِ بِمُرْتَشِفِ

تَكُنْ لِوَرْدَةِ خَدَّيهِ بِمُرْتَشِفِ

My lord, how did the messenger turn away from you when you had not

My Master, how did the Messenger turn away from you when

sipped the rose of his cheeks?

You were not to the kiss of his cheek an aspirant

جَاءَتْكَ مِنْ بَحْرِ ذَاكَ الحُسْنِ لُؤْلُؤةٌ

جَاءَتْكَ مِنْ بَحْرِ ذَاكَ الحُسْنِ لُؤْلُؤةٌ

فَكَيْفَ رُدَّتْ بِلا ثَقْبٍ إلى الصَّدَفِ

A pearl came to you from the sea of that beauty;

From the sea of that beauty a pearl came to you
