Indeed, by the swaying of the verdant bough,

and by the beauty of the guileless gazelle's turning gaze,

and by a beauty mark enveloped, on the cheek, by beauty

that roams over the surface of the silken cheek,

and by a temple-lock that, when it appeared, resembled

the garden's reflection in the clear waters of the pool—

indeed, his sidelong glances have bestirred themselves to kill me

    with resolve, though they are described as languid;

just as his tresses were ignorant of my ardent love

for him, though they are associated with awareness.

A crescent moon in drawing away and drawing near,

a gazelle in turning to look and shying away.

I behold, in his charms and my tears,

the rising of the sun on a rainy day.
