أَرَىI see نَارَthe fire of وَجْدِيmy longing أَطْفَأَتْنِيit has extinguished me وَلاand not تُطْفَىis extinguished
أَرَى نَارَ وَجْدِي أَطْفَأَتْنِي وَلا تُطْفَى
وَسِرَّand the secret of غَراميmy passion قَدْindeed خَفيْتُI concealed وَلاand not يَخْفَىis hidden
وَسِرَّ غَرامي قَدْ خَفيْتُ وَلا يَخْفَى
I see the fire of my longing has extinguished me, yet it is not extinguished.
I see the fire of passion extinguished me, yet it is not extinguished,
And I have concealed the secret of my passion, yet it is not hidden.
And the secret of my love I have hidden, yet it is not hidden.
كَأَنَّas though الصَّبَاthe east wind أَهْدَتْit offered إِليَّto me تَحيَّةًa greeting

تُعَرِّفها نَشْراً وتَنْشُرهَا عَرْفا
As though the east wind had offered me a greeting,
As if the morning breeze sent me a greeting,
Perfuming it with scent and spreading it as fragrance.
Announcing it openly, spreading it subtly.

غَزالٌ أبى أنْ يَعرِفَ الوَصْلَ والعَطْفَا
And among the dwellings of those camped on the protected grounds
And between the homes of travelers atop the hill,
Is a gazelle who has refused to know union and tenderness.
A gazelle refused to know union or separation.
