قُلْتُ لَهُ لَمّا انْثَنَى وَانْتَشَا

قُلْتُ لَهُ لَمّا انْثَنَى وَانْتَشَا

جُدْ بِوِصَالٍ مِنْكَ لِي إِنْ تَشَا

جُدْ بِوِصَالٍ مِنْكَ لِي إِنْ تَشَا

I said to him, when he swayed and grew intoxicated:

I said to him, as he leaned to and fro,

"Grant me union with you, if you wish."

“Bestow on me some favor, if you so desire.”

فَقالَ لِي تَبْغِي وِصَالَ الرَّشا

فَقالَ لِي تَبْغِي وِصَالَ الرَّشا

وَأَنْتَ لا تَبْذُلُ مِنْكَ الرُّشا

وَأَنْتَ لا تَبْذُلُ مِنْكَ الرُّشا

He replied to me, "You seek union with the young gazelle,

He said “You seek favors undeserved.

yet offer no bribes of your own?"

Yet from yourself no gift you would require.”

فَقُلْتُ هَذِي مُهْجَتِي وَالحَشَا

فَقُلْتُ هَذِي مُهْجَتِي وَالحَشَا

قَالَ انْظُروا بِالجَهْلِ كَيْفَ انْحَشَا

قَالَ انْظُروا بِالجَهْلِ كَيْفَ انْحَشَا

So I said, "Here are my lifeblood and my vitals."

I said “This is my passion, this my fire.”

He said, "Look how stuffed with ignorance he is!"

He said “See how in ignorance his words expire.”
