صَفْراءَgolden (wine) تَحْكيit mimics فِعْلَthe effect of عَيْنَيهْhis two eyes
صَفْراءَ تَحْكي فِعْلَ عَيْنَيهْ
I said, as he came hurrying with it—
I said, as he came rushing towards me,
Golden wine that has the same effect as his eyes—
A tawny gazelle narrating the tale of his eyes,
إِنْif قِسْتُهُI compare him بِالشَّمْسِwith the sun فيin حُسْنِهِhis beauty
إِنْ قِسْتُهُ بِالشَّمْسِ في حُسْنِهِ
فَالشَّمْسُthen the sun فيin قَبْضَةِthe grasp of كَفَّيْهْhis two hands
فَالشَّمْسُ في قَبْضَةِ كَفَّيْهْ
If I compare him to the sun in beauty,
If I compare his beauty to the sun,
Then the sun is in the grasp of his hands.
Then the sun is held in the grasp of his hands.
