سَمحْتُI consented بَيْعاًa sale لِمَمْلُوكٍfor a slave يُعانِدُنيhe defies me
سَمحْتُ بَيْعاً لِمَمْلُوكٍ يُعانِدُني
وَلَوْand if تَعدَّىhe moved beyond عِنَادِيdefying me ماnot تَعدَّانيhe left me
وَلَوْ تَعدَّى عِنَادِي ما تَعدَّاني
I agreed to sell a slave who defies me.
I allowed the sale of a slave who defies me
And had he ceased defying me, he would not have left me.
Even if his defiance exceeded mine, it would not exceed me

They asked, “Is he of the Alans?” You said to them:
They said, does he belong to the open minded? I said to them
“I would not have sold him had he raised me up.”
I would not have sold him if he had enlightened me
