He parted me from my patience,

by joining my eyelids to sleeplessness—

a dusky beloved; love for him has made

my longing my nightly companion, and remembrance of him my nightly talk.

The least of the beauty in his countenance

is the greatest of the moon's charms.

His words of love and his gaze

have kept me awake with conversation and dark-eyed beauty.

How often, when he gazed, I warned my heart about him:

Beware a heartbreaker with a languid gaze!
