Hand me the goblet in the morning,

then sing to me over my cup.

And turn the sun of your face toward me,

for the sunlight has not yet shone.

    لاَ تَمُدِّيها إِلَى السُّبحِ

    And keep both your hands busy on a string;

do not stretch them toward prayer beads.

And when you enrapture me, and there appears

in my intoxication the state of one disgraced,

embrace me with both hands, as

    lovers do out of joy.

And when, in rapture, I embrace

the draped branch of your figure,

    then remove your collar-buttons from

your breast, bewitching with its charms.

    And when things are thus,

then take off your trousers and cast them aside.

And take this, all of it,

and ask for what you wish, and make your requests.

Then go in safety, for one like

me has never divulged a secret.
