إلى حَرَمِ القُدْسِ الشَّرِيفِ فَقُرْبِهِ

Greetings from a yearning lover, his heart enamored and lovesick,

Greetings of longing from a love-struck heart

To Jerusalem's noble sanctuary and its environs.

To the blessed precinct of Jerusalem, so draw near it

سلامُ مُحِبٍّ كُلَّمَا هَبَّ طَارِقٌ

سلامُ مُحِبٍّ كُلَّمَا هَبَّ طَارِقٌ

مِنَ الرِّيح يَلْقى نَشْرَكُمْ في مَهَبِّهِ

مِنَ الرِّيح يَلْقى نَشْرَكُمْ في مَهَبِّهِ

Greetings from a lover: whenever a night visitor stirs—

Greetings of a lover, whenever an east wind blows

A wind in whose waft he finds your fragrance—

He finds your scent scattered in its gusts

تَذَكَّركُمْ والشَّوْقُ يَجْرِي بِدَمْعِهِ

تَذَكَّركُمْ والشَّوْقُ يَجْرِي بِدَمْعِهِ

عَلى خَدِّه وَالوَجْدُ يَسْرِي بِقَلْبِهِ

عَلى خَدِّه وَالوَجْدُ يَسْرِي بِقَلْبِهِ

He remembers you, while longing flows with his tears

He remembers you while yearning flows in his tears

Down his cheek, and passion courses through his heart.

لَقَدْ كانَ يَرْجُو أَنْ يَبُثَّ اشْتِياقَهُ

لَقَدْ كانَ يَرْجُو أَنْ يَبُثَّ اشْتِياقَهُ

شِفَاهاً فَلمْ يَقْدِرْ فَبثَّ بِلبِّهِ

شِفَاهاً فَلمْ يَقْدِرْ فَبثَّ بِلبِّهِ

He had indeed hoped to pour out his longing

He had hoped to pour out his longing in words

By word of mouth; unable to, he poured it out with his heart.

But could not, so poured it out in his innermost being

وَقَدْ كانَ يهْدِيه مِنَ النَّجْمِ نُورُهُ

وَقَدْ كانَ يهْدِيه مِنَ النَّجْمِ نُورُهُ

فَمُذْ غَابَ عَنْهُ ضَلَّ ما بَيْنَ صَحْبِهِ

فَمُذْ غَابَ عَنْهُ ضَلَّ ما بَيْنَ صَحْبِهِ

And the star's light had once guided him;

Its starlight had guided him, but when it was veiled

So since it vanished from his sight, he has lost his way among his companions.
