وَمُهَفْهَفٍ كَالغُصْنِ في المَيَلِ

وَمُهَفْهَفٍ كَالغُصْنِ في المَيَلِ

عَاتَبْتُهُ فَاحْمَرَّ مِنْ خَجَلِ

عَاتَبْتُهُ فَاحْمَرَّ مِنْ خَجَلِ

And a slender one, swaying like a branch—

Swaying like a bough in the night

I reproached him, and he blushed with shame.

I chided him, and he blushed with shame

لَمَّا شَمَمْتُ الخَمْرَ مِنْ فَمِهِ

لَمَّا شَمَمْتُ الخَمْرَ مِنْ فَمِهِ

وَفَّيتُهُ حَدّاً مِنَ القُبَلِ

وَفَّيتُهُ حَدّاً مِنَ القُبَلِ

When I smelled wine from his mouth,

When I smelled the wine on his breath

I meted out his full penalty in kisses.

I granted him a kiss, a limit of kisses
