By my life, I will not abandon my people's kin,

Nor depart from my courtyard or journey away.

My lowliness with them, when I am among them,

Is a lofty honor, despite the foes.

Shall I dwell among them when there is ease,

And depart when hardship befalls them?

And abandon my kin, though they are a people

Whose might ranges over the world?

Have you not heard their spearheads, which in

Your collarbones and ribs make a grating sound?

So restrain your hand from my people and leave them be,

For the blind will see their deeds.
