أَوضَعتَyou have sped فيalong شَأوِthe course of الجَفاestrangement فَاِحبِسِso halt
أَوضَعتَ في شَأوِ الجَفا فَاِحبِسِ
وَاِسلُكand follow طَريقَthe path of العَطفِtenderness ياO مُؤنِسيmy comforter
وَاِسلُك طَريقَ العَطفِ يا مُؤنِسي
You have sped along estrangement’s course; so halt.
And follow the path of tenderness, O my comforter.
ياO مَنthe one whom جَرىflowed حُبّيهِmy love for him فيin مُهجَتيmy heart
يا مَن جَرى حُبّيهِ في مُهجَتي
جَريَthe flowing of النَدىdew فيin زَهرِthe blossoms of النَرجِسِthe narcissus
جَريَ النَدى في زَهرِ النَرجِسِ
O you, my love for whom has flowed within my heart,
As dew flows within narcissus blossoms,
عَلىtoward مَليءٍone wealthy موسِرٍrich مِنin ضَنىًwasting sickness
عَلى مَليءٍ موسِرٍ مِن ضَنىً
مُفتَقَرٌimpoverished مِنin صِحَّةٍhealth مُفلِسِbankrupt
مُفتَقَرٌ مِن صِحَّةٍ مُفلِسِ
Toward one wealthy, rich in wasting sickness,
Impoverished in health, bankrupt.
