لَجَّ هَذا الحَبيبُ في هِجرانِهِ

لَجَّ هَذا الحَبيبُ في هِجرانِهِ

وَغَدا وَالصُدودُ أَكبَرُ شانِه

وَغَدا وَالصُدودُ أَكبَرُ شانِه

This beloved persists in forsaking me,

This beloved has persisted in his estrangement

and turning away has become his chief concern.

And his aloofness has only grown

وَالَّذي صَيَّرَ المَلاحَةَ في خَد

وَالَّذي صَيَّرَ المَلاحَةَ في خَد

دَيهِ وَقفاً وَالسِحرَ في أَجفانِه

دَيهِ وَقفاً وَالسِحرَ في أَجفانِه

By Him who made beauty dwell upon his

He who made sailing ships in the dimples

cheeks alone, and enchantment in his eyelids,

Of his cheek, and magic in his eyelids

لا أَطَعتُ الوُشاةَ فيهِ وَلَو

لا أَطَعتُ الوُشاةَ فيهِ وَلَو

أَسرَفَ في ظُلمِهِ وَفي عُدوانِه

أَسرَفَ في ظُلمِهِ وَفي عُدوانِه

I shall not heed the slanderers about him, even if

I will not heed the slanderers about him though

he goes too far in his injustice and his transgression.

He exceeded in his oppression and injustice

يا خَليلَيَّ باكِرا الراحَ صُبحاً

يا خَليلَيَّ باكِرا الراحَ صُبحاً

وَإِسقِياني مِن صِرفِ ما تَمزُجانِه

وَإِسقِياني مِن صِرفِ ما تَمزُجانِه

O my two friends, seek the wine at dawn,

O my bosom friend, walk early at dawn

and give me, undiluted, the wine you mix.

And let me drink from the draft you mix

وَدَعا اللَومَ في التَصابي فَإِنّي

وَدَعا اللَومَ في التَصابي فَإِنّي

لا أَرى في السُلُوِّ ما تَرَيانِه

لا أَرى في السُلُوِّ ما تَرَيانِه

And cease your blame of youthful dalliance, for I

Leave off blaming me for my infatuation

do not see in forgetting love what you two see.

For I see not in aloofness what you see

قَد تَمادى الوَلِيُّ في هَطَلانِهِ

قَد تَمادى الوَلِيُّ في هَطَلانِهِ

وَأَتانا الوَسمِيُّ في إِبّانِه

وَأَتانا الوَسمِيُّ في إِبّانِه

The later rain has persisted in its downpour,

The confidant has exceeded in his flow

and the first autumn rain came to us in its season.

And the censor has come in his time

وَأَرى الدَكَّتَينِ بَينَهُما أَف

وَأَرى الدَكَّتَينِ بَينَهُما أَف

وافُ رَوضٍ كَالوَشيِ في أَلوانِه

وافُ رَوضٍ كَالوَشيِ في أَلوانِه

And I see the two terraces, between which lie

And I see the two censurers between them

variegated patches of meadow, their colors like brocade,

Pastures like the critic in his variations

في ضُروبٍ مِن حُسنِ نَرجِسِهِ الغَضِّ

في ضُروبٍ مِن حُسنِ نَرجِسِهِ الغَضِّ

وَمِن آسِهِ وَمِن زَعفَرانِه

وَمِن آسِهِ وَمِن زَعفَرانِه

in varied forms of beauty from its fresh narcissus,

In aspects of the beauty of his narcissus complexion

and from its myrtle, and from its saffron.

And his flawlessness and his saffron color

ذاكَ قَصرٌ مُبارَكٌ تَقصُرُ الأَع

ذاكَ قَصرٌ مُبارَكٌ تَقصُرُ الأَع

يُنُ دونَ الرَفيعِ مِن بُنيانِه

يُنُ دونَ الرَفيعِ مِن بُنيانِه

That is a blessed palace; the eyes fall short

That is a blessed palace, eyes fall short

of the lofty heights of its structure.

Of its lofty architecture

فيهِ نالَ الإِمامُ تَكرِمَةَ اللَ

فيهِ نالَ الإِمامُ تَكرِمَةَ اللَ

هِ وَفَضلَ العَطاءِ مِن إِحسانِه

هِ وَفَضلَ العَطاءِ مِن إِحسانِه

There the Imam received honor from God

In it the Imam gained the Generosity of God

and abundant gifts from His beneficence.

And the excellence of his kindness

نَسأَلُ اللَهَ أَن يُتَمِّمَ فينا

نَسأَلُ اللَهَ أَن يُتَمِّمَ فينا

حُسنَ أَيّامِهِ وَطيبَ زَمانِه

حُسنَ أَيّامِهِ وَطيبَ زَمانِه

We ask God to perfect among us

We ask God to perfect for us

the beauty of his days and the sweetness of his time.

The goodness of his days and the blessing of his time

يا اِبنَ عَمِّ النَبِيِّ وَاللابِسِ الفَخ

يا اِبنَ عَمِّ النَبِيِّ وَاللابِسِ الفَخ

رَينِ مِن نورِهِ وَمِن بُرهانِه

رَينِ مِن نورِهِ وَمِن بُرهانِه

O cousin of the Prophet, who wears the twin

O cousin of the Prophet, wearing

glories drawn from his light and from his proof,

His lights and proofs

أُضعِفَت بَهجَةُ الخِلافَةِ وَاِرتَد

أُضعِفَت بَهجَةُ الخِلافَةِ وَاِرتَد

دَ شَبابُ الدُنيا إِلى عُنفُوانِه

دَ شَبابُ الدُنيا إِلى عُنفُوانِه

the splendor of the caliphate has been doubled, and

The splendor of the caliphate has weakened

the world's youth has returned to its prime.

And the freshness of life has faded to its prime

وَرَآكَ العِبادُ مِن نِعَمِ اللَ

وَرَآكَ العِبادُ مِن نِعَمِ اللَ

هِ عَلَيهِم وَطولِهِ وَاِمتِنانِه

هِ عَلَيهِم وَطولِهِ وَاِمتِنانِه

And the people saw you as one of God's blessings

And the servants saw you as God's blessings upon them

upon them—as His bounty and His gracious favor.

In His benevolence, favor, and grace

عَلِمَ اللَهُ كَيفَ أَنتَ فَأَعطا

عَلِمَ اللَهُ كَيفَ أَنتَ فَأَعطا

كَ المَحَلَّ الجَليلَ مِن سُلطانِه

كَ المَحَلَّ الجَليلَ مِن سُلطانِه

God knew your nature, and so He gave

God knew how you are so He gave you

you the exalted station in His sovereignty.

The sublime position of His authority

جَعَلَ الدينَ في ضَمانِكَ وَالدُن

جَعَلَ الدينَ في ضَمانِكَ وَالدُن

يا فَعِش سالِماً لَنا في ضَمانِه

يا فَعِش سالِماً لَنا في ضَمانِه

He placed religion and the world under your protection;

He placed the religion in your care and the world

so live safe for us, under His protection.

So live in peace for us in His protection
