How often the talebearer was wearied there, and the
censor kept through a night of unending length.

No lover is one whose talebearers have desisted,
whose reproachers have stopped and whose female censors have fallen asleep.

not knowing love's plight and its torments.

Is that lightning revealed, or has Ibn Mudabbir appeared
with the radiant brow of a patron whose petitioner has seen his good cheer?

A benefactor seeks to beguile us out of praising him,
though when we seek his bounty, we do not beguile him.

The fever clung to him three nights, wishing
that swift recovery's hasty coming might have tarried.

with the army on the day of al-Hunduwan to fight him.

A young man whom youth never turned aside from sound judgment,
nor has he forgotten pleasure's days, though gray hair covers him.
