سَقياً لِمَجلِسِنا الَّذي آنَستَهُ

سَقياً لِمَجلِسِنا الَّذي آنَستَهُ

واهاً لِمَجلِسِنا الَّذي أَوحَشتَهُ

واهاً لِمَجلِسِنا الَّذي أَوحَشتَهُ

May rain bless our gathering, which you enlivened!

You were a drinker in the gathering you graced,

Alas for our gathering, which you left desolate!

Alas for the gathering you abandoned!

صَيَّرتَ مَجلِسَنا بِذِكرِكَ عامِراً

صَيَّرتَ مَجلِسَنا بِذِكرِكَ عامِراً

وَحَضَرتَ آخَرَ غَيرَهُ فَعَمَرتَهُ

وَحَضَرتَ آخَرَ غَيرَهُ فَعَمَرتَهُ

You made our gathering thrive through remembrance of you,

You made our gathering flourish with your mention,

And you attended a different one and brought it to life.

Yet went and sat with others, giving life to them.

فَالذِكرُ مِنكَ لَنا نَديمٌ حاضِرٌ

فَالذِكرُ مِنكَ لَنا نَديمٌ حاضِرٌ

وَالشَخصُ مِنكَ لِغَيرِنا صَيَّرتَهُ

وَالشَخصُ مِنكَ لِغَيرِنا صَيَّرتَهُ

So remembrance of you is a boon companion present among us,

So your mention is a boon companion to us

While you have given your physical presence to others.

While your person, you have made a companion to others.

فَليَنعَمَنَّ بِطيبِ ذِكرِكَ يَومُنا

فَليَنعَمَنَّ بِطيبِ ذِكرِكَ يَومُنا

وَلِيَأنَسَنَّ بِكَ الَّذي جالَستَهُ

وَلِيَأنَسَنَّ بِكَ الَّذي جالَستَهُ

So may our day surely delight in the sweetness of remembering you,

May our day delight in your sweet mention!

And may the one you sat with surely enjoy your company.

And may he gain intimacy with you, whom you joined!
