إِنَّ الزَمانَ زَمانُ سَو

إِنَّ الزَمانَ زَمانُ سَو

وَجَميعُ هَذا الخَلقِ بَو

وَجَميعُ هَذا الخَلقِ بَو

Indeed, the age is an age of evil.

Time's way leads a stray,

And all these people are fools.

All creation astray.

وَإِذا سَأَلتَهُمُ نَدىً

وَإِذا سَأَلتَهُمُ نَدىً

فَجَوابُهُم عَن ذاكَ وَو

فَجَوابُهُم عَن ذاكَ وَو

And when you ask them for generosity,

Ask them for comfort -

then their answer to that is “waw.”

Their answer's "Nay!"

لَو يَملِكونَ الضَوءَ بُخ

لَو يَملِكونَ الضَوءَ بُخ

لاً لَم يَكُن لِلخَلقِ ضَو

لاً لَم يَكُن لِلخَلقِ ضَو

If they owned the light, out of sting-

Could they own the light,

-iness, there would be no light for humankind.

No creature would see.

ذَهَبَ الكِرامُ بِأَسرِهِم

ذَهَبَ الكِرامُ بِأَسرِهِم

وَبَقى لَنا لَيتا وَلَو

وَبَقى لَنا لَيتا وَلَو

The generous have departed, every one,

Honor's all gone,

and “if only” and “if” remain for us.
