أَلَمdid ... not? تَرَنيyou see me بُليتَyou were afflicted (contextually: I was afflicted) بِشَرِّwith the worst of قَومٍpeople
أَلَم تَرَني بُليتَ بِشَرِّ قَومٍ
أَمَلُّI grow weary of إِذاwhen لَقيتُهُمُI meet them حَياتيmy life
أَمَلُّ إِذا لَقيتُهُمُ حَياتي
Have you not seen me afflicted with the worst of people?
Did you not see me afflicted by the evil of a people,
I grow weary of my life whenever I meet them.
Whose life I hope for when I meet them,
إِذاwhen المُغتَرُّthe unsuspecting man لاحَappears لَهُمto them بَدَوهُthey accost him
إِذا المُغتَرُّ لاحَ لَهُم بَدَوهُ
بِأَيمانٍwith oaths كَمِثلِlike الأُمَّهاتِthe mothers
بِأَيمانٍ كَمِثلِ الأُمَّهاتِ
When an unsuspecting man appears to them, they accost him
When the deceived shone to them in his light,
With oaths like mothers.
With oaths like those of mothers.
