خِلٌّa beloved قَريبٌnear بَعيدٌdistant فيin تَطَلُّبِهِseeking him
وَالمَوتُand death أَسهَلُeasier عِنديfor me مِنthan تَغَضُّبِهِhis anger
A beloved who is near, yet far when sought;
And death is easier for me than his anger.
وَليand I have فُؤادٌa heart إِذاwhen طالَlasts long العَذابُthe torment بِهِin it
طارَflies اِشتِياقاًout of longing إِلىto لُقياmeeting مُعَذِّبِهِits tormentor
And I have a heart that, when its torment grows long,
Flies in longing to meet its tormentor.
يَفديكَhe ransoms you بِالنَفسِwith his life صَبٌّa lovesick man لَوif يَكونُthere were لَهُfor him
أَعَزُّdearer مِنthan نَفسِهِhis own life شَيءٌanything فَداكَhe would ransom you بِهِwith it
A lovesick man ransoms you with his life; if he had
Anything dearer than his own life, he would ransom you with it.
