On your way, O travelers heading home,

In summer's last nights, as autumn begins,

Carry back the greeting of those with loving hearts

To the dear one who asked after his beloved.

Carry it back to the date clusters of the swaying palms,

And to the palaces in Wadi Hanifah.

A homeland for which the heart bears love and burdens—

May any eye that has not loved it be blind.

We have matured and grown gray; the lookout heights have wearied us,

And the winds of the high lookout are fierce.

    اللي بقى دمعٍ هماجٍٍ ذريفه

    O you who come to the well, hold back your dippers;

All that remains is tears, brackish in their flow.

By God, if my blood could relieve the distressed,

I would cut my vein until its flow ran clear.

And how lucky the one no one knows or sees:

If he does good, he is praised; if he turns base, it is his choice.

But we inherited honor in our bones and cartilage,

No, we did not inherit honor as a crown and velvet cloak.
