He said, "A mirage"; I said, "I thirst for his mirage."
The mirage said, and I said to its mirage,
He said, "Destruction"; I said, "For the eyes of those I love."
“Destruction,” said, and I said to the eyes of loved ones.
ياO لايميyou who blame me فيfor حبloving مترفtender and pampered شبابهhis youth
الموتdeath حقa certainty ولاتبرقand do not threaten بالاسبابwith the causes
O you who blame me for loving one whose youth is tender and pampered,
Oh, my regret over passionate youth’s love!
Death is certain; do not threaten me with its causes.
Death is real, so do not shine reasons.
كانهif he ذبحنيslays me صاحبيmy beloved منfrom عذابهhis torment
ماابيI do not want لدميfor my blood ياO هلpeople of اللومblame طلابavengers
If my beloved slays me with his torment,
As if my friend slaughtered me with his torment.
I want no avengers for my blood, O you who blame me.
I do not want, o people of blame, seekers of my blood.
الجادلthe slender beauty الليwho فيهin him زينbeauty ومهابهand majesty
يفزleaps لهfor him قلبٍa heart .. وتخضعand bow لهto him أرقابnecks
The slender beauty, in whom loveliness and majesty dwell,
The debater, in him is beauty and awe,
A heart leaps for him, and necks bow before him.
Makes a heart leap...and necks submit to him.
فيin حجرthe hollow of عينةhis eye ليfor me غديرa pool وسحابهand a cloud
وفيand in وسطthe midst of قلبيmy heart لهfor him تناهيتsighs وعتابand reproach
In the hollow of his eye, I have a pool and a cloud,
In the palm of his eye is a pool and clouds for me.
And deep within my heart are sighs and reproach for him.
And in the middle of my heart, for him, longing and reproach.
إنif قلتI say أحبهI love him يكفيis enough for القلبthe heart مابهwhat is in it
وانand if قلتI say أناI مابيهI do not want him ..باصيرI will become كذابa liar
If I say, "I love him," the heart already has enough to bear;
If I say “I love him” it would suffice what the heart holds,
And if I say, "I do not want him," I will be a liar.
And if I say “I do not want him”...I become a liar.
