خُذواtake منَfrom العَيشِlife فَالأَعمارُfor lifetimes فاتِيَةٌfleeting
وَالدَهرُand time مُنصَرِفٌpassing away وَالعَيشُand life مُنقَرِضُcoming to an end
Take your share of life, for lifetimes are fleeting;
Take from life as life spans swiftly pass
And time passes away, and life comes to an end.
Time turns as life’s joys fade and will not last

In the cupbearer is a successor to the full moon of night,
In the wine-bearer’s cup as night gives way
And in the wine, a substitute for the midmorning sun.
Lies recompense for the light of morning’s day
كَأَنَّas though نَجمَthe star of الثُرَيّاthe Pleiades كَفُّthe hand of ذيone endowed with كَرَمٍgenerosity
مَبسوطَةٌoutstretched لِلعَطاياfor gifts لَيسَnot تَنقَبِضُit closes
It is as though the star of the Pleiades were a generous man's hand,
Like the Pleiades, the generous man’s palm
Outstretched to bestow gifts, never closing.
Stays open, giving, it does not withdraw
