After your passing, funeral eulogy has replaced praise.

For what calamity can the faith be consoled?

No spectacle in this world has been like your day:

It overwhelmed minds, and we foresee no such sight again.

Nothing remains to dread, for every calamity

Is slight beside it, and every disaster lesser.

Grant guidance solace after the loss of you,

For since you left it, its movement is stillness.

The news of your death left burning grief among the tribes,

Within which lies a wellspring for streaming tears.

O Rabiʿat al-Faras, beg for aid,

For this calamity has turned your glory's plains to rugged ground.

Be as you are in grief; yet through wisdom

    One mourner surpasses another.

With Sayf al-Dawla departed the glory for which

    Calamities had once seemed slight.
