نَزَلنا بِإِحساءِ العُذَيبِ وَلَم تَكُن

نَزَلنا بِإِحساءِ العُذَيبِ وَلَم تَكُن

لَنا هِمَّةٌ إِلّا اِغتِيالَ المَنازِلِ

لَنا هِمَّةٌ إِلّا اِغتِيالَ المَنازِلِ

We camped at the waterholes of al-ʿUdhayb, and there was no

We landed in Ahsa, the sandy place, with no other intention

aim for us but to swiftly traverse the journey’s stages,

Than to attack the dwellings, or plunder a sudden raid,

لِنَحوِيَ أَرضاً أَو نُناهِبَ غارَةً

لِنَحوِيَ أَرضاً أَو نُناهِبَ غارَةً

يَصيخُ لَها ما بَينَ بُصرى وَبابِلِ

يَصيخُ لَها ما بَينَ بُصرى وَبابِلِ

to take possession of land, or vie for plunder in a raid

That would make the lands between Busra and Babylon shriek.

to which all between Bosra and Babylon would listen intently.
