قُلْsay لعمادِto ʿImād الدينِthe Faith عنon behalf of عَبْدِهhis servant
ماnot أناI منof عَفْوِكَyour pardon بالقانِطِat all despairing
Tell ʿImād al-Dīn, on behalf of his servant:
Tell Imād ad-Dīn about his servant
I do not despair of your pardon.
I am not in despair of your forgiveness
فإنْfor if ذاthis يكُنْis غَضباًanger مُفْرِطاًexcessive
لِماbecause of what بداappeared منof زَلَلٍa lapse فارِطpreviously committed
For if this is excessive anger
If this be excessive anger
at a past lapse that has come to light,
For the wrongs that appeared as gross faults
فالسّاخِطُthen the angry man الحُرُّnoble لهhe has رَجْعةٌa change of heart
والصّعْبُbut the difficult thing أمْرُthe matter of السّاخطِthe angry man السّاقطbase
then a noble man in anger can relent;
The free man who is angry can relent
but the case of a base man in anger is difficult.
But the fallen man in anger is hard case
