    O rider bound for Kerman,

    pressing onward on noble-bred steeds,

tell my lord, if you reach him

safely, the words of his longing servant:

May your noble soul be spared from suffering

the same anguish of longing that I endure.

O you close to my heart, though

your dwelling lies far away across the horizons.

Tell him whose remembrance never leaves the heart,

though he has alarmed me with parting:

My tears aid me in separation as long as I live,

and my soul is stirred on the day of reunion.

I marvel at you, for you are in

my heart, while my heart reaches toward you with longing.
