If the moonlight is for travelers at night in an embrace
Let the riders know that the full moon is in the departing caravan.
Then let the caravan know that the full moon is in the bundle

The son of Muznah is not in my eyes, so I look at him
Nor is al-Muqanna among my companions, that he should enchant me.
Nor is the veiled one among my companions, so he fascinates me

Rather, it rose while the night was still dark
From her curtained chamber in the wilderness Layla, to bewitch me.
From her tent with flags, Layla appeared to captivate me

My eyelids stayed up behind the travelers with him

As if they were ripped open from pouring rain

If it were not for the crescent that my heart was obsessed with
I would not, after the clan's departure, be full of sorrow.
I would not have touched melancholy after the loss of the beloved, so sad

ياO ابْنَson of الَّذيthe one who طالماfor so long قدindeed كانhad been أعجبَهdelighted him
صفْوُthe sincerity of الولاءِloyalty لهto him منّيfrom me وشَرَّفنيand he honored me
O son of him who was long delighted
O son of one who the finest loyalty to him
By my sincere loyalty to him, and who honored me,
From me always delighted him and honored me
نوعانِtwo kinds وُدّيَmy affection مَوْروثٌinherited ومُكْتَسَبٌand acquired
لستُI am not البعيدَthe distant one فأبغيso I seek مَنْsomeone who يُقرِّبُنيbrings me near
My affection has two kinds: inherited and acquired;
Two types of friendship inherited and acquired
I am not an outsider seeking someone to bring me near.
I am not far off so I want one who brings me near
أستغفِرُI seek forgiveness from اللهَGod إلاّexcept منfor مديحكمُpraise of you all
فإنّنيfor indeed I فيهin it لمnot أكذِبْI have lied ولمand not أَهُنI have demeaned myself
I seek God's forgiveness—but not for praising you,
I seek God's forgiveness except from praise of you
For in that I have neither lied nor demeaned myself.
For in it I have not lied nor let down
أقسمتُI swore جُهداًsolemnly بماby what طافَcircled الحجيجُthe pilgrims بهaround it
وماand what أهلُّواthey proclaimed وماand what ساقواthey drove منَof البُدُنsacrificial camels
I swore a solemn oath by that which the pilgrims circle,
I swore vigorously by what the pilgrims circumambulated
By the invocations they proclaim and the sacrificial camels they drive,
And what they declared and what they brought of bodies
وكُلَّand by every أروعَsplendid man عاريbare of المَنكِبَيْنِboth shoulders ضُحىًat forenoon
يَهْويhastens إليهtoward it علىupon رَوعاءَa magnificent she-camel كالفَدَنlike a palace
And by every splendid pilgrim, shoulders bare at forenoon,
And all the most wondrous bare shoulder ones who at dawn
Hastening toward it on a magnificent she-camel like a palace,
Plunge towards it over the breastbones like insects
I shall surely give thanks for الّذيthat which تُوليهyou bestow it منof منَنٍfavors
ماas long as عشتُI live شكراًwith gratitude كشُكرlike the gratitude of الرّوضِgardens للمُزُنto rainclouds
I shall surely give thanks for the favors you bestow,
Surely I will thank the one you have given favor
As long as I live, as gardens thank the rainclouds.
As long as I live with thanks like the meadow for rain
هذاthis علىdespite أنّهthat it is ماnot إنemphatic particle لديَّwith me سوىanything but
شكرٍgratitude بسابقِfor the earlier part of ماwhat أولَيْتَyou bestowed مُرْتَهَنpledged
This, although I have nothing but
This is on the condition that I only have
Gratitude already pledged for what you bestowed before.
Thanks in advance for what you first bestowed pledged
إنّيindeed I بحبلِكto your rope بعدَafter اللهِGod مُعْتَصمٌholding fast for protection

After God, I cling for protection to your rope,
I am holding onto your rope after God
Whether I stay or journey.
During my stay or stabbing

And endure—for you are our imam, the imam's son—
And last, for you are the Imam son of the Imam for us
In honor, as long as a gray dove sings on a bough.
In glory for as long as Warka resonated during the trials
