A true oath - so believe me, O truthful one -
who would not swear unless he trusted himself:
None would swear but the self-assured.

The day I left while he - God forbid - complained,
and the day I returned, when they said, 'He has recovered.'
And the day I returned and they said he was healed.

An ever-radiant sun that never sets.

Dazzling white, he defies the blamers with dew,
acting like an ardent lover enamored of high deeds.
Lofty, seasoned with glory and duty-bound.

None matches his nobility and honor,

Graceful, yet so humble in his nobility.

He extends to the beseecher Hatim's palm,

And his wisdom the edge of the polished sword.

Pride of the faith is one like Mājid -
whose hands put pouring rainclouds to shame!
His hands have been graced with boundless gifts -

A predecessor in generous deeds to be followed,
along generosity's paths, yet follows none.
In the ways of munificence, not a follower.

My eulogy was estranged, so he hunted it down -
by his noble, gracious way of winning affection.
A generous one, excellent at bringing together.

a mouth, sweet to kiss, for one who seeks honor.
A mouth pouring glory’s wine, sweetly sipped.

to visit the House, bearing the burdens,
That he may come to the House, however difficult.

Through him, time has favored and aided me.

following the way of one lightly burdened!
Taking the path of lightness.

قال لنفسي اقْترحي وأَسرِفي
But the tongue of your glory, keen of edge,
But the bygone glory of your praise
said to my soul, "Make requests, and be lavish."
Told my soul to propose and dare.
فكيفso how لاnot يَبذلُgive فَضْلَthe surplus of جاهِهhis influence

مَنْone who يَبْذُلgives الأموالَwealth بَذْلَthe giving of المُسْرِفa spendthrift
مَنْ يَبْذُل الأموالَ بَذْلَ المُسْرِف
How could he fail to lend the aid of his rank,
How could one not grant the favor of his position
who gives away wealth like a spendthrift,
Who spends wealth most lavishly?

whose hand, when a petitioner seeks his bounty,
One whose palm, when grasped by a beseecher,
is more generous than the rain of a thick cloud?
Is more generous than pouring rain.

His hand gives freely to the children of the age,
His palm spends freely on people of the age
with every spontaneous bounty unknown before him.
With a pardon never before known.

The finest thing by which a man earns praise
And the best thing for which a youth is praised
is wealth exposed as a target for Time's arrow.
Is wealth aimed by fate like an arrow.

So give it freely, and win preeminence through it among mankind,
So spend it, bridge gaps with it between people,
and bestow it, filling the petitioner's palm.
And give it away completely like a palmful.

For the rose, by its nature, from its branches
The roses on its branches by nature
must fall scattered if it is not picked.
Spread freely when not plucked.

There comes to you a daughter of an hour of night,
You were visited by an hour of night,
born naturally, without affectation:
Stamped smoothly without effort -

Beautiful, revealing the unique beauty of its words
in the likeness of a garden's striped mantle,
Like the coolness of a thick-carpeted garden.

From a passing thought, whenever I call it
to praise you, never halts,
To praise you, it does not tarry,

like the sea, ever casting forth its pearls;
Like the sea casting its pearls upon fate
she has no shell but my thought.
While only my mind composes it like a shell.

If people are bewitched by Babylon's magic,
If people are seduced by Babylon’s sorcery
or fill the insides of their pages with it,
Or fill their bellies with scripture’s leaves,

I have a white hand which, if I reveal it
I have a white hand - if I reveal it
in verse, swallows whatever falsehood they devise.
In composition, however much they disbelieve, it collects.

My pen upon the page is a serpent; whenever
My pen in writing is a snake - if
I make it flick its tongue, Excellence tells me, "Do not fear."
I stir it, virtue says to me “Do not fear.”

When the sorcerers see its verses,
they bow before her in the prostration of acknowledgment.
They will bow down in submission.

Accept the gift of the affectionate guardian!

It brought glad tidings of ever-rising glory
in the harmonious shade of a dynasty's sun.
In the shade of the united state,

With glad tidings it extends its crescent's two hands,
And extended with glad tidings the hands
like a bracelet curved above them,
Of its crescent like a bracelet above a sleeve.

By God’s robe of honor as he sought
to your heights in pursuit of distinction.
Your gifts, aspiring for nobility!

You appeared, rising toward high honors, and it appeared,
You appeared lofty in greatness, and there appeared,
revealed to the eye of the watcher gazing upward.
Gleaming to the looking observer,

For people to see two crescents together
People’s sight of two crescents together
at the start of the month is a rare delight.
At the month’s beginning - a marvel!

Your meeting has increased our joy; yet even if
So your pair increased our intimacy - though
you alone had risen for the people, it would suffice.
You alone, people would have sufficed.

So increase in joy with this noble month,
Then add by this noble month more delight,
and drink from life's full pools, whose drops are sweet.
And gently curb the reins of life.

Count a thousand years like it,
Count a thousand years like it
until, when you have completed them, add still more,
Until you complete them - and even more!

Unbroken by the turtledoves' cooing.
