    I swore by Him whose House was beheld today

    By men's eyes, their tears falling in showers.

    They came in groups, each disheveled man unable

    To rest his side for longing, though his bedding was soft.

    So, until his eye beheld the House, he kept

    Making his worn-out mount kneel in the wilderness, then rousing it.

    They have not yet done justice to an age whose vicissitudes they condemn,

    While in it is a cherished, magnanimous man like al-Athir.

    وإنّ كريماً واحداً لكَثير

    A single generous man from our age suffices us;

    And indeed, one generous man is a multitude.
