ذهَب التَكرُّمُ والوفاءُ من الوَرى

ذهَب التَكرُّمُ والوفاءُ من الوَرى

وتَصرَّما إلاّ من الأشعارِ

وتَصرَّما إلاّ من الأشعارِ

Generosity and faithfulness have departed from humankind,

Gone is nobility and loyalty from the land

And both have vanished, save in poetry.

They remain only in poetry

وفشَتْ خِياناتُ الثِّقاتِ وغيرهم

وفشَتْ خِياناتُ الثِّقاتِ وغيرهم

حتّى اتّهمْنا رُؤيةَ الأبصار

حتّى اتّهمْنا رُؤيةَ الأبصار

And betrayals by the trusted and others have spread,

Betrayals of friends and others run rampant

Until we distrusted the sight of our eyes.

Until we doubt what our eyes see
